Emmanuelle Pratt▸ Organising Data (Task 4)

A data source used in one of my classes:

During a research project on migration with a 5/6/7 class, the students designed a questionnaire on Google Forms that was sent to a buddy class of new arrivals to gather both qualitative and quantitative data about these students.

The planning process included some interesting questions related to the ethics of this data collection, particularly as we were dealing with students who were still learning English – would they have an appropriate level of understanding about the reasons for the research and the use that their data would be put to?

There were no particular issues with the data itself or using it, with the exception of being able to define an accurate classification system for the qualitative data.
