Michael Heazlett▸ Defining Problems (Task 3)

Tried the thinking out aloud strategy in a maths class I had to take (not my kla). Students were stuck on a particular set of problems. Using think aloud they identified that they were not able to correctly order a calculation and were getting different results, they also identified they did not know which students had got the problem correct. (Stage 4-) This identified an order of operations issue that many students did not believe effected the end result. Students were provided the order of operations rule and given a different problem (identify who was using the correct approach and then write their own rule and test it for conducting a calculation. Worked quite well– deconstruct- abstract the issue and student generation of solution, worked very well. #cserApps3
