Task 4 : Organising Data

My students have been working on a Database Assessment. Some students have decided that importing data from a secondary source is a better use of their time than manually entering their data.

First challenge has been locating data (preferably from a single source) that fills their needs, or combining data from multiple sources.

Students have then been learning various functions in spreadsheets to seperate a single field into multiple fields eg “Name” into “First Name” and “Surname”. They have had to use sorting to arrange data and remove duplicates and also to help combine data from multiple sources.

Final challenge when importing their data, to make sure their columns in their spreadsheet match the fields in their databases (including data types).
