AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software application. Developed and marketed by Autodesk, AutoCAD was first released in December 1982 as a desktop app running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. Before AutoCAD was introduced, most commercial CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal. AutoCAD is also available as mobile and web apps.
AutoCAD is only available to businesses, schools, and academic institutions. It is not available for personal use. The price of AutoCAD subscriptions typically range between $5,000 to $25,000 for single-user licenses, and from $40,000 to $150,000 for perpetual licenses.
AutoCAD comes in two main versions, AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD Premier. The main difference between the two versions is the size of the files and the capacity of the RAM.
AutoCAD LT is a point-and-click-based program that is suitable for beginners. It uses a 256 KB fixed-size core with a 64 KB graphics buffer and does not support user-defined macros. As of version 2018, AutoCAD LT comes with DWG and DXF support.
AutoCAD Premier, on the other hand, is a mouse-based program that uses a 2 MB core with a 2 MB graphics buffer. It is suitable for more experienced users, especially those who need to edit large files with multiple layers. AutoCAD Premier can handle custom layers, styles, views, and toolbars and supports user-defined macros.
AutoCAD, regardless of the version, is based on Microsoft’s Object Linking and Embedding standard (OLE), a standard used for the development of other Microsoft Office applications. In addition, AutoCAD files are saved as an archive that includes the actual data and the format information.
The primary files used by the two versions are DWG and DXF files, which are backward compatible. Also, AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD Premier share a common XML data format that allows you to work with files created by AutoCAD LT in AutoCAD Premier and vice versa.

The Architecture category is one of the major categories for AutoCAD. Architecture has been used for design documentation for over 50 years, starting with the Alias Grahame for AutoCAD system.
The Design category is a major category for AutoCAD, comprising of many sub-categories. The primary sub-categories include:
The Text category is used to create text data for the drawing and other information. The Text category is further divided into:
The Layout category is used to display or manipulate a drawing. The Layout category is further divided into:
The Dimension category is used to display or manipulate the geometric size of a drawing. The Dimension category is further divided into:
The Calculation category allows one to execute a series of operations on the data, such as counting the number of points, lengths or curves. The Calculation category is further divided into:
The Multicad category allows creating meshes, isosurfaces, solids, and clusters.
The Pattern category allows creating a uniform grid. The Pattern category is further divided into:
The Symbols category allows the creation of symbols, such as buttons, pins, and text.
The Plot category allows one to display a graph and to display or manipulate the data related to the graph.

**What is Structure Drawing?**
**Structure Drawing** is a drawing mode that enables you to use a simple, precise way to draw basic geometric shapes and to draw overlapping and nonoverlapping shapes. The shapes appear on the paper in a way that helps you define and see them.
The features of this drawing mode are:
• You can see the shapes you create as they are drawn on the paper.
• You can resize the shapes to a specific size.
• You can define the overlapping relationship between the shapes by using the function of edges and ends.
• You can define the exact locations of the endpoints of the shapes.
• You can draw shapes on a specific area of the paper.

Markup Import lets you import written notes and feedback into your drawings. Whether it’s from text or images, the AutoCAD Markup Import assistant features a guided editor that makes it easy to add markup text or annotations to your drawings.
Save time and enjoy the benefits of AutoCAD Markup Import.
Markup Assist is an intelligent assistant that guides you through a series of guided steps to make sure you don’t miss any of the steps.
Markup Assist automatically lets you know which features you’re missing and offers guidance as you add the necessary components to your drawings.
Move, scale, rotate, and layout:
Simplify your workflow and extend your design options. Move drawings easily around on the drawing canvas and scale drawings to any size in almost any direction.
The new features in Move and Transform offer powerful new options that let you easily move your drawings around on the canvas, create new views that suit your needs, and scale and rotate objects based on their dimensions.
You can also now transform curved regions, such as paths, and include them in your drawings.
Use more efficient layouts. You can use any number of floating or fixed tools on the drawing canvas to create a more efficient layout.
The floating tools provide a consistent and predictable experience while the fixed tools offer faster access to tools and options.
Organize your drawings. Transform your drawings into any standard drawing size. Select the AutoCAD Drafting Window floating tool. Click the Transform arrow next to the Drawing Size menu option. In the transform window, change the Height value to 130. Then press Enter.
You can also select any standard drawing size from the Drawing Size list. Use the Select Location option to select the location of the layout origin point.
Alternatively, you can change the number of grid lines per drawing unit. To do this, select the Customize option from the Drawing Size list. Use the Size value to specify the number of grid lines.
Use Transform to create layouts of any size. Select the Draw floating tool. Click the Transform arrow next to the Layout option. In the Transform window, change the Height value to 20. Then press Enter.
AutoCAD’s transformation system lets you change the origin point of the drawing, which automatically changes the grid lines and other dimensions and layouts in the drawing.
